Project 1
Ways of Thinking - Composing Architecture (Geometry & Form)
Task
The task requires selecting an ordering principle and primary elements to articulate our design. Principles such as Axis, Symmetry, Hierarchy, Datum, Rhythm, or Repetition. We first had to create one model each representing- Point, Line, and Plane. Subsequently, these elements are combined to develop a more intricate combination model. The final step involves translating this design into visual representations by creating four tattoo stamps. This exercise aims to foster a fundamental understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in idea generation.

DESIGN DESCRIPTION
My chosen ordering principle was rhythm, which emphasizes a harmonious sequence of elements, patterns, colors, and structures within space. The foundation of my model began with rhythmically arranged symmetrical shapes such as triangles and rectangular planes .

Point Model:
The point model was initiated with triangular cubes, leveraging the many angles and edges of triangles. These cubes were rhythmically connected and leveled on top of each other, creating a dynamic, ascending structure.

Line Model:
The line model employed satay sticks and triangulation with wires. By arranging the sticks in a rhythmic pattern and connecting them with wires, the structure emphasized the repetitive triangular formations and the fluidity of lines.

Plane Model:
The plane model utilized cut-out modeling boards, meticulously calculated to display a gradual rhythmic movement on the front facade. The rhythmic arrangement of the planes created a wave-like effect, enhancing the visual movement.

Combination Model:
The final combination model integrated different materials to illustrate movement. It featured two layers with spaces in between each plane, with wires placed on top to accentuate the rhythmic movement. Careful calculation of heights ensured a gradual and rhythmic progression throughout the structure. The model aimed to repeat the use of squares and curves to showcase the principle of rhythm.
REFLECTION
As an architecture student still developing my modeling skills, this assignment was both challenging and rewarding. Selecting rhythm as my ordering principle allowed me to explore the dynamic and fluid nature of design.
Despite my initial lack of confidence, I found that through careful planning and iteration, I could bring my ideas to life.
This project taught me the importance of precision and patience, as well as the value of embracing complexity.
While I have much to learn, completing this assignment has given me a deeper understanding of architectural principles and a greater appreciation for the art of modeling.
