Project 2
Ways of Making -
Architecture and the Body
Task
In Project 2, our group was tasked with designing and constructing a full-scale bamboo structure for gardening, which was then installed at Kebun Komuniti USJ 14. This project required us to grasp the nature and characteristics of bamboo, apply basic construction knowledge, and develop our design through workshops, tests, and investigations using scaled study models. We explored architectural elements and principles and incorporated anthropometry and ergonomics into the design of our 1:1 bamboo structure.

REFLECTION
Completing the 1:1 bamboo structure project was a significant milestone for our team, as we developed a thorough understanding of bamboo materials and tools, explored essential design principles, and honed our skills in producing scale and detail drawings. We effectively resolved design disagreements by initiating discussions and employing a voting system, ensuring everyone’s input was considered and communicated to our group leader. This experience greatly improved our communication skills and problem-solving abilities, and provided invaluable hands-on experience in teamwork, construction oversight, and detailed drawing techniques. This project has been a pivotal step in our journey towards becoming aspiring architects with solid foundation.
